The Belfast Shoulder Clinic is Ireland’s only Orthopaedic Clinic with a focus exclusively on the  diagnosis, management and treatment of shoulder disorders.  The Belfast Shoulder Clinic has been developed by Mr Neill Thompson, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon and Dr Arthur Grey, Consultant Musculoskeletal Radiologist who have considerable expertise in all aspects of shoulder related problems. We provide a very rapid outpatient service and following your initial contact with our practice you can usually be seen within a week.  Investigations such as MRI Scan’s, X-rays and Ultrasound Scans are usually performed on the same day as your consultation.  Following your investigations you will usually be reviewed within the following 2 or 3 days and at that stage a treatment plan can be planned.

In the case of patients with very severe symptoms you will be seen on the soonest possible basis.  Many shoulder conditions respond favourably into the longer term with Steroid Injection Therapy and Physiotherapy.  The majority of patients who undergo treatment at The Belfast Shoulder Clinic simply require steroid injection treatment and in the majority of cases surgery is not required.

The Belfast Shoulder Clinic has very close links with Physiotherapy Practices throughout Northern Ireland and your treatment will usually involve attending a Physiotherapy practice close to your home address.  If you have been referred by your treating Physiotherapist you will be referred  back to them following any treatment that you undergo at The Belfast Shoulder Clinic.
